Eligibility

  • An applicant must:
    1. Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
    2. Be enrolled in an accredited college or university in British Columbia or Alberta.
    3. Be a person with significant physical disabilities or ongoing health challenges, such as someone who:
    • requires a personal attendant
    • is dependent on a mechanical device for mobility or maintenance of body functions
    • requires major continuing therapies OR
    • have other significant special needs.

    Applicants with mental health challenges are invited to apply only if they also have a significant physical disability.

Applications must be received no later than May 31, 2022, for support in the following academic year.

You could be eligible for this grant if you apply and:

  • have a financial need
  • are a student in a qualified program at a designated school
  • are a student with a disability recognized by the Canada Student Financial Assistance Program, and
  • provide with your application, a document(s) that shows that you have a disability
How much you could receive

Until the end of the 2022 to 2023 school year, you could receive $4,000 per year. You can get this grant for each year of your studies as long as you still qualify. The school year runs from August 1 to July 31.

The amount of the grant remains the same regardless of your assessed need. This could reduce or replace the need for a student loan.

Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment – Students with Disabilities

Eligibility

You could be eligible for this grant if you apply and:

  • have a financial need
  • are a student in a qualified program at a designated school
  • are a student with a disability recognized by the Canada Student Financial Assistance Program;
  • provide with your application, a document(s) that shows that you have a disability;
  • send written confirmation from a qualified person that you need education-related services or equipment; and
  • send a document which confirms the related cost of equipment and services.

To confirm your education-related services or equipment, a qualified person can be a:

  • rehabilitation caseworker;
  • official from a centre for students with disabilities;
  • guidance counselor; or
  • financial aid administrator from the student’s school.
How much you could receive

You could receive up to $20,000 per school year. The school year runs from August 1 to July 31.
